About Me

Jeffrey Lindberg spent more than two decades as one of the most prolific cover illustrators in children’s and young adult publishing, creating hand-painted cover art for Scholastic, Random House, Simon & Schuster, Pocket Books, Macmillan, Viking, Puffin, and Atheneum, among others. Working in acrylic and oil on Masonite, his paintings defined the visual identity of a generation of books during the last great era of hand-crafted cover illustration. He has taught illustration and computer graphics at Kean University in New Jersey since 2002.

Jeffrey wrote Santa Rides the Subways in 1995 while living in a brownstone in Brooklyn’s Sunset Park neighborhood. The community there, and his own Puerto Rican heritage, gave the story its heart and gave Carmen her name. The text went into a drawer for thirty years. When Jeffrey finally read it aloud again he knew it was time to give it pictures.

Santa Rides the Subways is the second title from his own imprint, Flying Rabbit Press, following Coney: A Trip to Luna Park. Jeffrey lives in South Orange, New Jersey, a short distance from Brooklyn.
